The RSPB is seeking to appoint a Head of Fundraising & Communications for RSPB Cymru. The successful individual will provide strategic leadership and contribute to the development and implementation of RSPBs strategy and programmes, leading a specialist department and providing professional support to operational teams in Wales. This is a highly visible role where you can determine how the RSPB is viewed and supported within Wales.

We are looking for an influential and transformational leader in fundraising, engagement and communications to join our Leadership Team in RSPB Cymru. The successful candidate will work with counterparts in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and RSPB Headquarters to develop plans to engage and empower people across the UK while adapting approaches to suit the particular context of Wales. 

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Proven leadership and people management skills, able to motivate and develop team members for high performance and build a positive culture
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present, influence, negotiate and represent the organisation and advocate for its mission at a senior level
  • Collaboration skills to build relationships, navigate politics and manage conflicts
  • Business management skills
  • Financial acumen to manage budgets, forecasting, understand financial statements and use business metrics
  • Proven ability to translate strategy into action, developing programmes, prioritising and leading change
  • Knowledge of the RSPB and its mission
  • Sound knowledge and demonstrable experience of functional specialisms
  • Experience of leading and developing large, multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience of leadership without direct line management authority and facilitative leadership
  • Experience of setting standards and managing systems

Desirable skills:

  • Professional qualifications in fundraising, engagement or communications and membership of relevant professional bodies
  • Experience of commercial sponsorship, corporate partnerships or philanthropy

This is a permanent, full-time role for 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate can be based anywhere in Wales and will be expected to attend RSPB Cymru offices on a regular basis. Wider travel is also expected.

We are looking to conduct online Teams interviews for this position on Tuesday 25 November, with final interviews taking place in Cardiff on Thursday 11 December.
