Cadw is seeking to appoint to a number of Cadw Custodians in the West Wales area. If you have a passion for heritage and want to help people enjoy historic sites, then we need you!

Cadw Custodians are the face of our business – welcoming the public, dealing with admissions, helping them enjoy their visit safely and choose an appropriate souvenir.

You will need to be ready for anything and take customer questions in your stride – questions such as ‘who lived here?’, ‘when was it built?’ and perhaps most importantly ‘where are the toilets?’

• 1 x Custodian, Laugharne Castle (14 hours summer and 0 hours winter)
• 1 x Custodian, Kidwelly Castle (23.25 hours summer and 18 hours winter)
• 1 x Custodian, St Davids Bishop Palace (31 hours summer and 24 hours winter)
• 1 x Custodian, St Davids Bishop Palace (full time all year)

Monuments are open to the public seven days per week, your working hours may fall on any day of the week as part of the rota. You will be required to work some weekends as part of the role. A premium rate is payable for weekend working.

Welsh Language

Welsh Language skills are essential for this role, or the candidate must agree to learn Welsh upon appointment.

We are looking for people who are willing to learn Welsh to a required standard upon appointment to the role of custodian.

There are several options available to help you learn and develop your Welsh language skills ranging from entry level to proficiency training. Along with weekly lessons, there are also online courses, intensive training and residential training available as well as mentoring and bilingual tools to support you to gain confidence as you use the language daily. A Welsh language learning plan tailored to your individual skills and learning style will be developed on appointment to help you to reach agreed goals.

Salary

Starting salary will be £27,302. This is not negotiable.
