The Role of Commissioner

The Board of Commissioners provides leadership and governance for the organisation and provides scrutiny and constructive challenge to all of the Royal Commission’s activities. The Board also shapes the future of the organisation. The Royal Commission is keen to appoint an individual who is committed to providing the best possible historic environment service for the benefit of all the people of Wales.

We are seeking someone who:

– Demonstrates an understanding, a commitment, and an enthusiasm for the historic environment of Wales and the contribution made to its public promotion and understanding by the Royal Commission as a national cultural organisation
– Has a clear vision on how the Royal Commission can continue to provide the best possible national archive and investigation service for Wales, working with key partners to respond to current and future opportunities and challenges;
– Has an awareness of Welsh Government legislation (including the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015), policies and strategies (including the Priorities for Culture) and of how they influence the work of the Commission and the culture sector as a whole;
– Has an understanding of delivering or facilitating change management and/or strategic awareness and planning; and
– Has a commitment to Nolan’s Seven Principles of Public Life

Welsh language requirements  

3 – Welsh language skills are not essential for this post, they are however desirable and will be considered if two or more candidates receive the same score at the application or interview stage.

Understanding by reading: 1 – Can read some basic words and phrases with understanding

Speaking and being understood: 2 – Can hold simple work-related conversations

Understanding by listening: 3 – Can understand routine work-related conversations

Writing and being understood: 1 – Can write basic messages on everyday topics
